This was my second time ever going turkey hunting. I have always heard about how exciting and the adrenalin(sp?) rush.
At day break the gobblers started up, and it didn't matter what made a noise they would gobble. They gobbled to crows, owls, our calls, dogs and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. As the morning progressed, they flew down into a field on the other side of the swamp, and they were still gobbling their heads off. It was about 8:00am and i asked my buddy if he thought we needed to move down into the swamp. He said let's just wait a while. About 8:15 i see something peeking out of the woods about 60 yards from us. This gobbler was already in full strut, so i called lightly to him and he just stayed fanned out and started struting. He made his way out into the field, but he was a little shy of the decoys. We had a hen and a jake out, but he wouldn't gobble when we called. I guess he wasn't the dominant bird. He eventually turned and made his way towards us, but he all of a sudden stopped, picked his head up and started running towards us. When i got a clear shot of him i shot him.
