i have to agree with bogster. shad is a mighty fine catfish bait and it is cheap too. a good cast net and knowing where and how to throw it will keep the bait bucket full.

went friday night and since i have never set trotlines before we used a diffrent bait on each one. The first had chicken livers wich are a pain in the ass to get on. We caught one small cat on it. Next we used ivory soap. Caught 2 cats on it and when you get through puttin it out your hands are clean. On the third we used cut eel. WE caught the first cat on this line whil puttting the line out liked to scared the guy holding the line when it snached in his hand. We caust two on this one. Now one reason the numbers were so low fri night for us was the massive amounts of May flies that were out when i put the boat in the watter looked white form the dead may flies floating down river, so i know the fish were gorging in them and were not that interested in what we had to offer.
All in all i will use the soap and the eel again but i beleive ill leave the chickein liver at the store.
I stock up on mullet and pogies in the fall. Great bait and hardy also if frozen in brine.
