    Default Salty Dog

I haven't been posting many pictures this year on here, but I wanted to share this one. Costa is on his 8th duck season. He is still going strong and loving it. He gets a little stiff from time to time, but can still run with the best of them. Costa has picked up ducks in the ocean, salt marshes, and coastal rice fields here in SC this year. I haven't grown up hunting the coast like alot of others on here, so this has been new to the both of us.

This hunt was my favorite of the season so far. My initial set up brought in a pair of mottled's and only the hen left out. Big groups of wigeon started moving in mid morning so I moved to the back of the field for a better set up. The wigeon started decoying but were short stopping me in the open water at 50-60 yards. I tried a couple shots on birds that I thought were closer, but didn't connect. Around 9:30 I knew I needed to make it or break it so I got the paddle and headed to the only clump of grass that would present me with good shots. The only problem was I would be staring right into the sun. I grabbed two wigeon decoys, paddled to the grass, and tossed the two decoys out on the edge of the calm and ripples. Immediately wigeon started filtering back in. In 15 minutes I finished my limited with 5 wigeon in 9 shots. I cherish every hunt I have left with Costa, and this is one that I will never forget.

Awesome hunt! And it is a very shitty feeling when you realize that your pup doesn't have many hunts left. Mine had her last duck hunt a few years ago, and it sucks like hell, but at least she is alive and kicking still.

Hunt like every one is your last. I sure didn't think my that hunt with my chocolate was gonna be his last, but ya never know what tomorrow brings. That's a good looking stack of birds that should provide some good victuals.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

That dog has been a good one. Seems like yesterday he was picking up the geese and Bluebills for us. The time sure does fly by!

    Great hunt! Congratulations again
You've got one life. Blaze on!
