    Default Grease Coats.

I now know what all the hype was about. My wife bought me a filson field jacket for Christmas. I think I've worn it every day since then. IN mist, fog and light rain it sheds it like a duck. Spent the last two days on the coast in poaring rain and 15mph winds in my mccallister wading jacket that i've only hunted in maybe twice. I was bone dry and warm. These things work. With my wool stormy kromer hat and wax coat i looked like i was back in the 50's.

With a little love, it will last several lifetimes. my Filson Tin Cloth Field Jacket is about 10 years old. Re-wax every year. Looks better than the day I was given it. Its about the 5th thing Id grab if my house was on fire.

The wife gave me a Field Jacket for Christmas as well. I opened it up and when someone was opening the original package they used a box blade and cut through the jacket in several spots. Nobody noticed it, but I had to take it back.

Of course they did not have my size in stock, but hopefully it comes in soon. I have worn a Barbour for a long time and it's a great jacket, but I don't think it's as tough as that Filson.

Hahaha, I buy the Barbour wax. And the Barbour Beaufort is just to look pretty, that's about it with some of their line. The Bedale is the same way. Some of the older ones are pretty tough.

I've had this old Solway for about twenty years now. It'll be reworked after this season. I just wear my Beaufort around town.

I've been asking for a Stormy Kromer hat for three years now at Christmas. I may have to break down and buy one myself.

Not that old Solway I have. I have that and a wool and another fur liner for both jackets.

They need to bring back man jackets. There are some nice ones on their site, but around here you only see the Bedale and Beaufort. I wear my Beaufort as a windbreaker.

The stormy kromer is the shit! Cabelas had them in outfitter camo for 26 bucks. They run small so get bigger than you normally wear

True story. Everything that filson makes is bullet proof. I have a filson waterfowler jacket and it's twice as tough as my barbour.

I have been looking for a while. I am wanting one to wear as a outer garmet. I have been looking at mccalister. Would filson be a better choice. I want a tought jacket Between birdhunting and driving dogs my carhartts doesn't hold up. Which would be the best all around?

the filson tin cloth is the toughest. Mine is cover cloth which is a little thicker than barbour. My mccalister is almost as thick as tincloth. Its what i wore all weekend in the rain and it worked great

I had heard they were going to bring the Solway back out. It's cotton was a lot heavier than the new jackets Barbour makes. A tough jacket, and I don't know why they stopped making them.

I posted this link earlier, but I'd love to find another original Solway.

Now the only reference I can find of it is the remake called the Plimpton. It looks like it has been fancified.

My wife wears this one, but I doubt it or her will ever be in a marsh hunting with me.
