If you need 25', buy a WELDED climber.

If made properly (by someone that knows wtf they're doing), welds DO NOT break.

10th season hunting the tract I'm on now. 1st year, I made (2) shitty ladder stands from WOOD. One was consumed by the burn barrel after year two, the other is rotting in a clear cut right now.

    2nd year I welded stands-

The 9 metal stands that I fabricated myself are still in place, and not a one has a problem.

The platform type ladders are secured with chain and binders, and you can cut a jig in them if you like, they're that sturdy. The quad-pod freestanding ones are secured with auger tie downs and air-craft cable and they DON'T move either.

how much did you spend on the metal?
welds break. not everyone is perfect every time they weld.
most people dont even weld their own metal stands, they get china's finest fabrication

Not sure- ten years ago metal was cheaper than wood.

Welds only break if done improperly. If your welding skills suck, put the stands together with ss bolts and nylock nuts.

    I'm not most people.

I hunt from both... my wooden stands are not more than 16 feet tall and are sturdily made of treated wood. New wood at that. Most last at least 9-10 years. I have never felt unsafe in one of my stands.
