    Default '83 Suzuki DT30 problems

I know the motor is old and maybe it has just done all it can do but here is the issue at hand. Motor started running hot so I replaced the impeller didn't fix the issue. Cleared all tubes of any obstructions had one little dirt dobber nest. Ran the motor and once again hot. Saw a head gasket leak and replaced it along with a new water seal and thermostat. Seemed to help some but didn't fix the problem. Went to run it the other day and it over heat and dies on me. Got hot enough to discolor the paint on the motor and all. I have no clue what else to do there isn't anything else to replace that I know of that could fix the problem. Any ideas?

zuki's have really poor corrosion resistance. a motor of that age is most likely eat up with corrosion and mineral build up within the water passages. to solve the problem you will need to gain access to the water passages and clear them out. that involves removing the head, removing the powerhead, and exhaust plate cover. be careful removing any bolts as they may break being they are old and corroded.

other problem may be a piece or pieces of the old impeller may be stuck in the water passages. check the water tube coming out of the foot and also check all water passages.

It's a two stroke motor so it's mix gas. It did have corrosion when I took the head off but nothing terrible. I figured it was about time to upgrade. Guess Ill have to do what I can till I can get another motor or sell this boat and my flats boat and buy a mud boat like I have been looking into.

dont crank it till you fix the problem. it will run after its overheated in most cases. may need a new gasket.

Had the same problem with the same motor. Siliconed the impeller housing and solved my problem.
