    Forecaster predict Irene to be about 100 miles east of Myrtle Beach early Saturday morning

    Tropical storm warnings issued from Edisto Island north to North Carolina state line

    No mandatory evacuations ordered

    Last hurricane to hit was Charley in 2004

    1-2 inches of rain and winds up to 50 mph predicted in Myrtle Beach area; 1/2 inch of rain and winds gusting up to 35 mph expected near Charleston

    Wife has to ride this out solo up on the Strand....
    She must be getting soft on me, Oregon coast girl born and raised and she's concerned about some wind and rain...as long as it keeps its track, Horry should fare well.

    They haven't said much about a "surge" here in Charleston, however, the canal in my back yard is about 6" from pouring over. It might get 2' of water during a moon tide, now it's well over 5' at this point and steadily rising. Anybody else around here seeing this?

    only some wind here in Mullins so far...had a little rain around 230 but thats been it

    Like Mullins, nothing in Flotown but wind since that rain squal earlier today. A few trees down and one shed roof ripped off is all I know of as far as damage.

    Some folks in Florence lost power.

    To be more specific BG, the wind pushes water as it circulates. East side is pretty tough. Any storm of any significance will bring storm surge, i.e. that "wall" of water.
