Ahhh, I remember the good old days when we had to hang around the gas station with the tailgate down or feet sticking up in hopes of showing off a good deer.

Post up B35w - you got the rest of the day to gut the thing. What color tag did you use?

MAN! I miss them days........Honda "big red" 3 wheelers, spikes, cowhorns and 4 points everywhere. And everybody was happy. Never a question of score or age, just a love for hunting.

It used to make you fell like the small town hero when you brought the biggest buck into the check station on a Friday or Saturday night!

I was watching a hunting show last night where the host was talking about wasting disease and how he'd like to see check stations brought back to monitor that and just for the simple fact it's a fun place to hang out. Check stations were before my time but I imagine that would be a fun place to congregate on a post hunt Saturday morning.

Spot on. Then, it was deer hunting, nothing like experimental - government influenced deer farming of today. There was no hating on horn size. Just congrats on the harvest.

Back in the day ( 80's ) the check station at Salem Crossroads was a sight to behold on Saturday mornings. You'd think a truckload of bucks from the bomb plant was hauled up there and dumped on the ground.

SC has never had a problem with wasting disease because we have always had liberal bags. If dnr keeps tightening down on the harvest, it might become a concern for us. I think deer numbers are starting to rise again in the upstate. I don't know if the deer are adapting to avoid coyote predation or what, but I am seeing almost 90's numbers of does and fawns this year. When numbers get too high, that when the funk gets on em. I hunt deer to eat. If disease gets into the herd in my area of the state, ill probably quit deer hunting.

I wish it was just all about the hunt. Not the size and age of the deer. Back when you got invited to a place they didnt tell you what you could and could not shoot. Back when you could just have fun and kill shit.

When no body asked you, "why'd you shoot that little 4 pointer?"
    Answer: because im fucking hungry.

Well....these new age QDMA hubters don't eat deer. They don't kill many because "their wife won't eat it" or "they don't cook at home much". These Yankee fuktards will tell you they "donate" their meat or "had the whole thing made into jerky". Hunting was about food then. Now its about glory and fame.

This is exactly why I have so much fun processing deer. People pulling up and hanging around and all smiles. I never let someone get away with saying "Well he ain't nothing just had to shoot something." Hell no man you killed a deer and that is just awesome, congratulations I'll get him dragged off and spray out your bed while you go fist bump the kids.
