    Default Penn Captiva Opinions?

Anyone know much about the newer model Penn Captiva models? I have a couple Senator 114's and a 750SS, but I'm lookin' for another spinning outfit. I'll probably just get another 750SS, or, I'll buy two larger Captivas.

I'm anal, and somewhat shallow, and I want all my rods/reels to somewhat be the same.

I'd love to go with big-ass Penn Internationals hangin' outta the rocket launchers, but, I can't see/stand spending $4k on 4 rod/reel combos, ya know?

I actually have two 114 Senators, two Jigmasters with Newell conversions, and two Penn spinning set-ups. I probably need to ditch the jigmasters, or MAYBE try to keep them for bottom fishing. In the end, after weighing cost/benefit/how much they'll actually be used -- I'll just buy 4 more Senator combos, one more 750SS combo, and be done with it.

What are you saltwater fishers runnin'?

Captivas are crap. I had two of them and both broke at the foot of the reel under normal use. The inside looked like a sugar cube, as it is not a solid metal frame. Haddrell's fixed them as a warranty claim through Penn, but I have not used them since.

do not get a captiva. ever. i made the mistake and that thing literally fell apart in a few months.

Spend the extra buck on a slammer. They are the nicest spinners in the penn line by far. you dont have the clunkiness of the SS, or the shittiness of the captiva.

560-760 models hold a shitload of 17 or 20 pound test mono.

ive got a 460 slammer on a 7'6'' Shimano Teramar loaded with 45 lb Power Pro braid. There is nothing in inshore SC that i couldnt catch with that rod. good for sharks up to 5 foot id say.

look into shimano as well. penn isnt ALWAYS the biggest name in fishing. i have a stradic, sahara, have fished symetre's alot. all nice reels.

i would agree on TLD's as well.

    Thanks everyone.

I actually read some reviews, and they stated the craking problem, and some users had paint falling off after the first trip in salt.

    I appreciate the help!

I've had a Captiva for 4 years. Needs cleaning after every use in the salt asap or it locks up. It does the job for freshwater..I'd go Shimano for sure

I bought a couple of the Cabela's Sea Strikers or some such once as an emergency reel when the funds were tight after the deevorce.

Now, I use them once in a blue moon, BSB, large cats and such....they have held up very well.

Cabelas salt strikers are nice for a very inexpensive reel
