I used to go fly fishing off the South coast of Cuba every year. This was back 20 years ago when we had to book flights through Canada and fly to Cancun for a connector to Cuba. The State Department frowned upon knowledge of such activities... First time I went I had a duffle with NoDak duck hunting residue and empty shell residue all over it. I get in the Havana aeropuerto where it is a ZOO. Dogs walking around everywhere off lease (gov dogs). I had been shipped a motherboard for the 85' motherships control room that would be our accommodations for the next week. I'm waiting to meet the rest of the guys when one of the dogs (beagle) waddles past me. Being the dog lover I am, I reached down and petted him and talked to him. I thought he liked me when he sat down by my bag. About that time, three federales came up with MP5's and were talking and looking at the dog and then me. Even through my elementary level of Spanish I could tell it was about me and not good.
Basic search in the terminal and then more detailed search in the back. Finally got a supervisor that spoke some broken English and he started with detailed questions about gunpowder residue and sophisticated electronics that I had in my bag. After taking EVERY SINGLE THING I had with me apart, they let me put my flyrod cases back together and my gear back in the boxes, and repack all my clothes. They thought it was some sort of a communications jammer and bomb making tools. After 3 1/2 hours of detaining me and talking to 4 levels of command, they could find no concrete reason to keep me and let me leave.
Never had another problem in all the other times I went there. But, never carried another motherboard either
