    Thanks. I was reluctant to cut into the stock on the old gun, but my dad and I talked and agreed that it had been used as a kids gun the last 2 generations. Might as well put a nice pad on it and continue it for another generation. It was still a nervous moment when I took the saw to the stock.

    Appreciate the words of caution. I'll take all the help I can get. I do plenty wrong. Just hoping the good outweighs it.

    and I shoot my granddads old model12 in 16ga and it doesnt always go bang....but I still shoot it every hunt I go on.

    if it blows up in the field, my gramps would be just as happy....

    Best of both worlds at 7.5. Or maybe I'll pick up a box of each and do some testing on mocking birds.
