    Default Redeye?

    I Caught one (I think...) OTF. 3.5-4lbs.

The fish has red eyes...vertical stripes and one long horizontal bar...bronze colored...but the mouth of a largemouth.

    Hybrid?

I killed him, (yeah I am a fish killer), he lost a lot of his markings in between the water and the tailgate. the vertical stripes arent visible in the photos.

the jaw extends past the eye it is a largemouth. redeyes looks like a cross between a spot and a smallmouth. the also have a tooth patch on there tongue. they are in jocassee keowee and hartwell.

not a redeye. They typically are smaller fish found mostly in GA and FL. More like a shoal bass than largemouth.

Nice fish! Back in the 1970s and 80s you could catch a few real small redeyes (1/4 lb > 1lb) between 28 bridge and Big Bend. That was when I drove my 66 Bronco all the way up the GA. side to the gorge. Throught the Banjo pickers yard, just off 28!!! {:>) Thats a good-un, which ever it is.

Thats a largemouth...redeye or "Coosa" bass are found in lakes around here, and even more so in GA and AL however hardley ever get over 1-2lbs. I think the angler record is around 3.5 lbs. But i've personally never seen one over 2....regardless, excellent fish on the fly!

Yeah, you are right...I think I wanted it to be a redeye. I was in a spot someone said they were catching them before...saw the redeye...and put it in my head. The fish woulda lived otherwise. I may can stretch it and say it is a hybrid... BTW, the state record redeye was caught on Jocassee at 5.3 lbs.

He was the first one on my new 8wt. Yeah, it was a blast...

I read somewhere that fish was later determined to be a hybird, and the record went back to 3.5ish, but according to DNR its still 5.3#

He's just hung over. Nice ice breaker with the new whipstik, though.
