m2field hooked me up with a pretty sweet spot! Although it's pretty much in the city, all commercial stuff... Quiet. No people.
Before today I have only shot a doe with a bow. and I lost her trail in a swamp. It's been 5-6 years of just casual hunting, with an old hand-me-down bow.
I got pics immediately after putting camera out and saw deer every sit. They moved early and late, mostly low light. Kinda surprised.. even got busted a few times this week in the wind.
Still decent amount of rut activity too and watched a good fight two days ago. Bill made a remark about trying to rattle. So I took a pair of horns I've used for 20 years and have never had any luck.
One side is a Texas deer my Dad shot in Texas, and other a buck my Step-Dad killed in Bama. Rattled at 3:30 and 10 mins later I could hear him walking the ridge above me.
He got down-wind and then came in really slow, rubbing a few trees. Looked up at my tree twice. Finally he turned and came to 25 yards and I drew back, grunted to stop him, and sent a 2 blade rage.
I heard a smack, and what sounded like the air getting knocked out of him. He bolted 50 yards and then started to wobble some. I lost sight but heard him crash.
Awesome experience. Thanks again Bill. I am now in the market for a new bow. 140 pounds and NO TEETH. Old warrior.
