I'm about to get my hands on a .357 lever action rifle.
Looking for anyone that may have hunted deer with one, and what factory ammo you used.
Thx in advance...

There is a new ammo out called "deer season" so if you're planning on shooting deer in season I think we can go ahead and close this thread
If it was me I would go with something like this

Heavy hard cast. Underwood and buffalo bore make em. 200gr.
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I load my own. If I didn't I would shoot these. That bullet out of a 10" 357 Maximum Contender is bad medicine.

Yes, 357 revolver is a good choice for deer but not more 100 yards. If your skill level isn't enough to snuff for 100 yard shooting with a .357 or .44 rifle you should be going to the range until it is before going hunting or giving armchair advice.
357 mag rifle not revolver.
+1 Buffalo Bore

Correct. But it blew up on soft tissue behind the shoulder. With the cast options, inside 100yds, you can put one through both front shoulders and anchor a deer right there.
But again, the Hornady is very usable. I just like the more solid options for myself
I don't have any experience with the .357, but I have killed a few deer with CorBon ammo. I use the 110gr in my .300blkout

Another vote for hard cast. 180 grains should be enough.
"Only accurate rifles are interesting " - Col. Townsend Whelen
I've shot several deer with 250 Wide Flat Nosed cast performance bullets out of my .41. They are very accurate and penetrate well but blood trail are hit or miss. Had some that were easy to follow and some were drops, with same bullet placement. The Aframe has given me the best of both. It expands like a hollow point but penetrates like cast. It is heads and shoulders above every othe handgun hunting bullet I've tried. Out of a carbine barrel it will be a hammer.
