Reading the post about Arkansas gtr's has me thinking. Wouldn't it be so nice to use some of our national forest land to make these?? Can you imagine the possibility?

The govt wont drown their timber revenue for the sake of a few ducks. Plus, there are limited sites on govt lands where creating GTR's is practical. Unlike Arkansas, most SC bottomlands are not annually inundated for extended periods of time. BUT, personally I like the idea of trying to build a few in select spots as has been done before. It's just not gonna happen in the future is all I'm saying.

White River refuge is federal
So is Sumter national forest.
We once had huge amounts of exactly that type of habitat, but "Rule Curves" and timbering put an end to it at any significant level..... Probably.
Pre lakes I bet we had a lot of that habitat.... I have some hardwood/cypress flats that flood nearly every winter but only the wood ducks use them
