Visor, You can take a thin nylon pressed over a Goretex membrane and avoid the sponging as they do in fishing gear if that is what you are speaking of by chance. I am speaking strictly about duck hunting coats for the sake of this discussion.

Yeah, we've got our fair share of Novas on here .
Everything from the guys who pay $700 for "get what you pay for" Nylon jacket with a Goretex Membrane and a fancy Marketing Campaign to the guy who said Hefty Trash Bag, which is essentially the same thing without the breatheability, and everything in between.
Most of the even more "high tech" being pawned off to hunters is simply foreign made membranes that are knock off reverse engineered Goretex. Give them a cool name and people will buy them and fight you to make you believe they are the best thing since copper coated lead.
In all seriousness, when did all this fancy raingear hit the market? Maybe its because I grew up in a middle class family but when I got started hunting as a kid in the 90's, we always wore camo ponchos in the rain both deer and duck hunting. I remember sitting in stands keeping my rifle underneath it to shield the rain. I don't remember really getting a waterproof suit until the 2000's.
Kid in the 90's? You're a youngster. How's that orange dog box I sold ya treating ya?

Stormr typhoon jacket if you want to stay dry.
Man I love it! Because its a 3 slot and not a double, I have to pack them in their tight, but it works great! I like the top storage too. You wouldn't believe how many folks have wanted to buy it. That thing is a hot comoddity these days!
Good deal. PM me, I know a good spot near you that we can run. I'm down to 3 dogs now and it's not enough for this place.

I wear a Filson #435 wading jacket and adjust my under layers according to the weather. I stay bone dry. Can't tell you have many guys have hunted with me in a down pour and have gotten flat out soaked in fancy camo jackets.
Hey look everybody. A duck hunter.
Ducks can't resist the smell of a greasy coat hidden in a blind near a good looking spread of decoys.
The drake 3 in 1 keeps you dry. just know that its really a inner layer that can take the sleeves off and the outer layer is a shell
