Standby for the anti hunting crowd to raise hell about elk hunting.

If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
Missing you my great friend.
That area could use some revitalization. But this nature center doesn't replace the coal industry.
Still it is great to see the effort being put into Elk.
When I was working on my B.S. we did a collar telemetry study up there. The professor told us when we got there to avoid people on atvs at all costs, to not even look at them if they came up in the road. Apparently they grow/grew a lot of weed up there in some of the elk relocation sites and do not take kindly to the wildlife folks. They haul it out on atvs, packing serious heat. Professor said he had his nose stuck in a 870 barrel on several occasions.
I saw an ATV with an elaborate rack with bags rigged up on the back. I asked one of the fellas that worked up there what it was for and the answer was harvesting.
i smell a road trip....
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
Today is a big day for eastern elk conservation. 10 am eastern time a big announcement will come out.

A lot has happened since 2007 but this is a neat video about the story of elk in KY.

The Appalachian Wildlife Foundation was given a 12.5 million dollar grant today to put towards the wildlife center.
After Obama's war on coal it's good to see something positive for that region again.
That's an insane amount of money for that foundation. That's great.
Jake, I am proud of your dad and I know Y'all are especially!
Glad to have know him for a long time now..... Very proud!
