Default Gum Trees in the pond

I have a shallow pond that went dry a few years ago.Well a large part of it got gum trees. It now has water.I have been cutting them below the waters surface and was wondering if that could kill them? Do they have carbs stored in the root system that will make them sprout again.I don't want to use chemicals in the pond-

I have got this same prob. In one of my ponds, on one end is shallower. I know you said you didn't want to put chemicals in the pond, but depending on size of the trees roundup and karmex mixed up and sprayed on the trees solved my prob. Maybe this will help.

"Cycle of Life"...they've been doing that in these cypress domes for eons and will come and go!
They're death leads to nitrogen build up which leads to duck weed and eventual death of the sweetgum.
They will die and come back during the next drought....

I had forty or so in back yard. We removed them. We damaged the bark on one and it died within a year or too. It fell and rotted away pretty fast. Just a idea.

Will gums live if their feet are wet? I didn't think they could survive flooded.

I have the same problem with willows in the shallow end of my pond. I just started cutting them below the water with a chain saw. Im wanting to know the same thing, will they die or just start puting off more.
