Default NC Ferry Rates- Cedar Island - Ocracoke

I heard NC is going to increase its ferry rates to $25.00 / vehicle and add a $5.00 fee for each additional rider in that vehicle. You might want to start saving now if you are planning a OBX trip next season.

Where did you read this? We were planning on making a trip to Ocracoke for the day this summer while at my parents place at the beach. If it's that expensive to go over there, we might have to make other plans.

They really hit you if you pull a boat.

Still better than going all the way up, and back down.

You do not want to drive around, its a looong ride. I read it online from the Carteret County NC Newspaper, Carolina Coast Online, the article "Ferry Fees - prepare to pay"

You do not need a car when going over to ocracoke. Just take a bike. You can walk everywhere you need to go and you can rent bikes on the island.

We take the long way around. When you factor in the wait times for the ferries, it's usually quicker to go around to get to the Buxton/Avon/Hatteras area by road. The ride isn't bad. I95 to NC highway 64. Highway 64 is like an interstate with very little traffic. There's a giant gun shop along the way that is well worth the stop. It might be the most guns I've ever seen in one place.

Most likely THE most expensive also! On the other hand, if you want to put your grubby paws on something they will more than likely have it.

Gun shop is Mackey's Ferry. The guy is a Yankee Jerk that moved down here. He has the highest prices around.
