Last week the Broad River Wildlife Management Area in Fairfield County was dedicated by Ducks Unlimited and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The Broad River WMA is a 670 acre property where public waterfowl hunting is one of several recreational uses of the land. The WMA is open to the public from February 2-October 31. DNR operates draw hunts for waterfowl during the winter season. Bird watching, fishing, archery, deer hunting and small game hunting are also popular at the Broad River WMA.

A collaboration between Ducks Unlimited, SCDNR, and SCANA improved water management capabilities that limited crop production and moist-soil management on the property. DU engineering and biological staff designed and engineered the project which greatly enhanced waterfowl habitat in the area. The total project cost was over $500,000 with funding contributions from DU, SCDNR, SCANA, and the South Carolina Ducks Unlimited Tag Fund, which DU was able to leverage to secure a North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant.

Ducks Unlimited is proud to have delivered another successfully leveraged project for the benefit of South Carolina’s citizens and our public lands hunters.
