Default Whitetail hunt options ..second tier?

Thinking about taking the old man somewhere this fall. Would like to do a 3-5 day whitetail hunt but won't be able to foot the bill for Texas or Kansas etc.

What other states do you suggest...any contacts would be helpful as well.

Thinking Kentucky maybe west central Ga....

I think you are going in the right direction the KY route. Good luck!
I'm going to heaven for the weather and hell for the company.

Check out golden triangle whitetails in IL...have land in brown, Adams, and pike county.

Prices are great considering their success rate and lodging is top notch. It's a top caliber operation with second tier prices. No trophy fees or anything of that nature....flat rate for a 130" or a 230" deer.

The owner is a good friend of mine and I've had the pleasure of hunting his place several times over the years...have killed a 145" and a 150". Missed a 180" last go-round.

If you've never hunted wood goats out west before you're in for a treat. Totally different world. You can actually watch the rut unfold in front of you out there
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

What's your budget for the hunt and licensing? What are your expectations (lodging, potential deer size you might see, distance from home)?

A mullet both hides and reveals a redneck, grasshopper.

If you both bow hunt, there are quite a few bow-only, low fence operations in Texas that you can hunt for that price range.

That amount of money (might) get you a (chance at a) decent buck in the "Black Belt" region of Alabama...

Here is one option. I have sent customers there in Januarys past.. some of them killed decent deer in the 120"-130 " range....

Long time ago, so I have no recent knowledge of how the herd is now..

NW Mizzou. Tags are OTC, you can rifle hunt the rut, and land is available.

Iowa's 1st Shotgun Season. You have a decent chance of a NR draw and its Iowa. Public Land is untouched out there. Better hurry applications close at end of month.

I've heard that some midwestern states' public land during gun season is a clusterfuck of man drives. I can't speak to which ones. Check the regs before narrowing it down if you plan to DIY and choose a state that doesn't allow man drives on public land. You could wind up horribly disappointed. The states that allow it...its ingrained in their culture to do man drives on public land once they've done the same on their own back 40. This was discussed in a thread on the QDMA website.

Ohio has OTC tags and tons of public.

If you hunt public the first 2 wks of Nov. expect company.

My suggestion is to go the last week of Oct. Catch them cruising for does and miss the crowds by a week

Bad take that shit with a grain of salt. A bunch of non residents go to a state with a short gun season and a long history of party hunting and man drives, then they hunt public and cry about having their hunts disturbed. Kinda like yankees bitchin about dog hunting here.

Find a pinch point, plan on staying all day, and eventually they will push a shooter past you. Two of the guys I lease with killed 160" bucks last year deer that were pushed to them by guys on man drive on neighboring properties.
