Jesus Christ...why don't you just put it in the microwave for 30 min and eat it? You want an hour and a half to two hours a pound when smoking a butt. Low and slow...repeat to yourself. Low and slow!
This will help, but SimpleMan will be able to tell you a definite #.
You could not be more wrong when it comes to the Orion.
4 hours for a 9lb'er is about right.
I go 5hrs. for (2) boneless 9lb'ers from Costco. They are over 200deg internal then. Wrap in foil, set aside for an hour or so, and pull apart with your hands. That butt will fall right apart.
I don't need my name in the marquee lights....
I want to see some pics, turk.
wait a minute...you can cook a boston butt in the microwave???
NO pics. I took it out after 4 hrs perfect, Wrapped in tinfoil for a while. Started cutting it up family & friends were eating faster than i could slice it. I usally cook one about 5-6 lbs but glad i did a big one so i would have enough. I marinated it in mello yello overnight acording to the recipe in the Orion booklet, Not bad. I realy like this cooker. Any one who tries to cook a butt in a microwave needs to be kicked in the balls!
Sliced? WTF?
Enough said:
Glad my sarcasm about cooking it in the microwave got lost in the post. What temp is the Orion cooking said butt at to complete it in 3-4 hours?
I have had my Orion for two years, and I love it! Ribs, pork roasts, wings, thighs, brisket, all are great and easy on this cooker. It is a little pricey if you use the Matchlight charcoal as they suggest, but I find that regular charcoal with lighter fluid works as well and is somewhat less expensive. Works great with or without wood chips. Only three problems I have found so far are 1. There is a lot of flame when it is initially fired up. 2. Clean up is not what one would consider remotely easy. 3. Boston butts take longer than the recommended time before they are falling apart tender ( I'm not sure how much, yet.) the butt will be fully cooked according to the thermometer, but will have to be sliced not pulled. In my opinion, the Orion is a fantastic cooker. I actually use it as much as my charcoal grill.
No thanks...all your doing is grilling and steaming the shit out of a piece of meat. There is a reason every BBQ joint in America smokes their meats for 12,14,18, plus hours. BBQ takes time to get it right. Grilling a piece of meat till its not raw anymore does not
marsh chicken....
Eat a dick dds...although you might want to cook it on your Orion so it's nice and hard just the way you like it.
But SLICE it?!?!? Really?!? Never. No way I could get a butt to stay together enough to slice it at the end of 5 hours.
I don't need my name in the marquee lights....
Can I get a "sliced pork sammich"? Doesn't sound right.
