I have to agree with Jab on this one. The earth is getting warmer. There is no debate about that. It has heated up approximately one whole degree over the last 50 years. Doesn't seem like much. There is no concrete scientific evidence that man is causing the change. That is totally a political question. Any greenhouse gas regulation will be a huge cash cow for all government agencies. I saw Al's movie and there were some worthwhile things in it. For the most part it was somewhat misleading and way over dramatic. I personally believe that we need to conserve more energy through expanding technology and do what is feasible to protect the environment. Its just the right thing to do and should be dictated by the free market and not the government. I don't think we should spend billions of dollars, pass a bunch of new regulations, and limit personal freedom based on research that is flawed and full of conjecture.

Did Gore say in that movie that the ozone layer is not a problem anymore? Or did I mis hear him?

well you know what they say, opinions are like assholes. i understand that ice has been melting since the end of the ice age, but i dont think that has anything to do with the ozone layer. how do you not think that CFC's have anything to do with the big hole? im not saying that is the only cause, but i has to play some part...

I think we saw the same program with the ice core research........all 2 miles of it.

When it makes the turn, we could have another ice age in 10 years. We could be extinct shortly there after. While some would see the cooler times as a turn for the better, history says it could spell extinction for us in short order(10-15 years).

why did it shrink from 86-88-- That was the year I made the Torch with the can of hairspray---- Maybe by me doing that I helped it close up-- Damn I am rich- I think I just found the cure------- BRB I gotta call somebody

It shrank again in between 94 and96 and 98-2000-- prolly cause the FRIGID Hillary Stank Clinton and the scholar illustrious Al Bore- I mean Gore was in office

You got lots of other things to concern yourself with as far as Global Warming besides the ozone -- You better worry about what North Korea and Iran can do- they got a real atmospheric Heater-- The Tree Huggers aint smart enough to recognize a REAL THREAT to GLOBAL WARMING

The ozone layer is not a problem since the Feds banned CFC's. During the 70's several climatologists were predicting an ice age. The pollution in the atmosphere kept us from feeling the effects of the sun's energy on the earth's surface. Our air is cleaner now than it has been since the industrial revolution started. Sure, there are plenty of areas where smog is a problem, and some areas are designated as being non-attainment for both ozone (ground level) and PM2.5. The standards by which we measure pollutants are also lower than they have ever been. The bottom line is that if we took the most stringent approach to climate change we could not stop it. Coal fired power plants emit huge amounts of of CO2. If we did have the technology to sequester all CO2, where would we put it? No one knows for sure what the effects will be of CO2 sequestration. If all of the coal fired plants shut down how would we meet the energy demands of society? There is not enough green power out there to make a dent in what we use. Solar panels are ugly, wind mills kill birds, and heaven forbid we go nulcear. What's the answer? People are quick to condemn big energy and power plants but it sure is nice to flick a switch and have light at a very reasonable cost. People see smoke stacks and NIMBY's start complaining. They don't realize the mountain of regulations that power plants have to deal with to operate. Its a wonder that SCE&G and Duke Energy has not shrugged their atlas and left us with candle power.

    Bring it baby.

Not so bright to call me out in an area so conclusively studied that it is not even up for debate among any scientific community.

Study the shapes of the geography in these areas and then what local smog does you fucking moron.

I will clean your clock on this one.

How about this compadre? We put this debate up here for people to vote on who can post the more conclusive argument. I win - you never post again. You win, I will do the same.

    Game...?

Bring it. I assure you I can in a way you can't even fathom on this topic.

Uuuuhhh...isn't smog like particulate matter and ozone in the troposhpere. Don't we breathe oxygen. Sounds like we might could choke to death on the stuff. I'm not an expert, just play one on scducks. Give'm hell Candahair.

    Falcoon40,
You picked the wrong man to call an idiot on this topic! The environment is what Candor does for a living, it's what he got his post-graduate degree in.

    What are your qualifications?

But let's look at what Earth does to itself, and she does smack herself quite hard on a regular basis. One Mount Pinatubo or Mount St. Helens eruption spews more pollution and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than mankind could do in 10,000 years. And Earth cleans it up as she has been doing for billions of years.

Yet man has only been spewing fossil fuel fumes into the air less than 200 yrs.

I remember the first Earth Day in 1970, the enviro-nazis & all their Kool-Aid drinking scientists said the earth would be in a total Ice Age in 20 years. They said life as we know it would be gone, under the ice in 20 years, if we didn't do something. We didn't do anything and guess what?

Woops they missed that one huh?

Here we are 37 years later and *NOW* they're saying we're causing Global Warming.

We are "causing" nothing period. It is getting warmer but we aren't having a noticable effect on it one way or the way. Whatever we do, Earth will continue her cycles as she's always done.

The funny thing about Earth Day is they can't even agree on who started it. Senator Gaylord Nelson says he did, yet John McConnell says he's the one.

The Global Warming spiel is good for a few things:

    1) It's good for scientist to use to get grant monies.

    2) It gives the liberals the power to do what they love most, tell people how (by the liberals standards) to live their lives.

To give you an idea of just how insignificant man is. You can put every man, woman, and child on Earth in a two bedroom house with a 50' front and back yard in Texas.

To think we can change the atmosphere and weather of the whole world is the height of vanity! Pure and simple.
The Elites don't fear the tall nails, government possesses both the will and the means to crush those folks. What the Elites do fear (or should fear) are the quiet men and women, with low profiles, hard hearts, long memories, and detailed target folders for action as they choose.
