If you are looking for an outstanding outfitter, look no further than Beaverhead Outfitters inthe Gila National Forest. Jack and his crew are outstanding. If you are looking into DIY, he will still give you a wealth of info. Public land in the Gila is pretty damn good.

That is AWESOME. Killing it with a recurve is that much better. Being able to focus after a miss is tough, X 10 with ut sights, no let off, or release.

The bow is a 50lb Randy Morin Banschee longbow. Randy is a neat guy out of Montana that makes a few for fun each year. The arrows are Beman 400s and the heads are STOS 145s. I just bought six STOS heads for $28. I added inserts to get the total head weight to 175. With 100 grain brass inserts the total arrow weight is just shy of 600 grains. The arrow hit the bull slightly lower in the shoulder than I was aiming and penetrated through the shoulder, middle of the heart and all the way through the next shoulder stopping against the off side hide. The hide amazed me when skinning him how thick and tough it is. Trying to poke a hole in it with a knife was very difficult. Shooting a non cut on contact head at elk should be illegal.

definition of yalls favorite buzz word- "rank" Aiming at the shoulder of a bull elk with traditional gear and knowing that you will blow through it.

Awesome. Don't know what else to say. I know you are proud of that hunt. Glad you had a buddy there to experience it with you.

It'll mean as much to you in 40 years. Just keep telling the story.

I share in your joy and have nothing but respect for the time, effort and sacrifice you put into this hunt, when most of us have no idea how much of that was expendend. And I think we all know it was more than just a hunt. In the end, it's all about that knife and everything it means.
