    Default Old Radio

Anybody got experience or sources on restoring an old Philco?

We were given this one from my grandmother years ago and I've always been intrigued by the idea of getting it back in working order. Optimally, I'd like to see if there's a way to put current AM/FM guts in it. Of course, I want to get the turntable back to functional too.

This one even had short wave.

It really is in great shape, but the one time I looked at the circuit board, it made my eyes cross and I ain't been back to look at it. That mutha is above this ol' boy's capabilities.

I found a site dedicated to Philco parts, but I was curious if anybody around these parts could work on 'em.

    Thanks, bean.

Edit: I just looked and it's a Philco model 41-608.

Honestly it will not be worth anything if you remove the original stuff; however, that is the good news. Buy a BOSE wave radio, put it inside and clip the iPod connector out of sight on the back. Then get a bottle of Murphy's Oil Soap, follow instructions, then sit back and thank me for the 100 hours you did not spend on replacing the parts with another old radio only to not enjoy the sound once you are finished. Tubes, resisters, drives for turntable etc are very hard to source and expensive once you do. MG
