    Default Welcome to Auburn...

    An interesting article...

Is it really that bad in Columbia? Seriously. I've never been to a game there so I don't know.

This is from a Gamecock website...

    Auburn hospitality sets standards

Gamecock fans can show team pride without being rude, disrespectful

    http://www.dailygamecock.com/viewpoi...ards-1.1648337

    Welcome to Auburn.
    Seriously. Welcome to Auburn.
Everyone said it - while giving directions, offering food, serving free drinks and speaking to all.
They shook hands. They thanked you for visiting.
And some even apologized just in case someone else was mean to you. It almost felt like there was a planned hospitality committee in this gorgeous, quaint town on the Plains. We all were in awe- the only rude fans we saw were wearing garnet and black.
Jordan-Hare Stadium was an incredible experience due to a raucous crowd, a fantastic gameday environment and a gorgeous eagle that swooped over the stadium and sat on the sideline. The crowd chanted the entire game, but there were no rude catcalls toward USC or untoward motions to the fans, at least from our vantage points.
This small town was the best of the best. Before the game, friends told us all the campus was like Clemson. Not true. This place was pristine with class. It had character. And the people had character. They even recycled.
Contrast that with nine days ago during the USC-Furman game. Our students screamed obscenities at a measly out-of-conference opponent. There were boos when the other team took the field. We were rude to Furman. Yes - Furman.
And that's not even considering Georgia. We all saw horrible exchanges during that game, from our students cursing out older fans to belligerent drunks throwing up in the student section to security guards escorting our students out by the multitudes.
Sure, other schools are rude. LSU and Georgia are among the worst. But as some of us have noticed, we're getting a reputation for being among the worst, too. Do we want that? Football is fierce and intense. But we believe our student body should desire to be above the fray - above the substandard, juvenile conduct of others. What does that say about us? Are we holding to our ideals?
This is not to say we should care less. Let's care more. But let's show some class, some respect and some South Carolina hospitality. Let's not scream obscenities or racial slurs at the other team.
It's sometimes said football is a lot like life. If so, we're leaving a lot to be desired.
Thank you, Auburn. You set the standard for what SEC football should be. If we have to lose, we'll lose there every time. From what we saw, you gave us the best of the South and the best college football has to offer. Let's do the same for Alabama in two weeks.

i went to one game at williams brice.
    i'll never go to another.

a special thanks to the one USC fan that wasnt an obscene-try-to-start-a-fight-by-throwing-bottles-white-trash-asshole.
he then admitted to me that his daughter went to USC because she didnt get into Clemson. then, on the way back to her car, my then girlfriend's roommate got held up by a guy with a gun. i personally couldnt find my truck because of all the trash blowing around like some sort of disgusting irresponsible "snowstorm".

but i did get to see the cockabooses.
in all honesty i feel sorry for yall.

Auburn is still in the south. Problem around here, Southern hospitality has been replaced with dragging britches and people from Ohio. Is anybody left up there ?

I have been in construction for a long time and have seen the changes from someones back yard. Used to be when it was hot, someone would at least OFFER a cool glass of water. Now they will not even be friendly to such an underclassed POS having to work a menial job for a living.

So, I price their work accordingly, 15% more for the attitude.

    Getting much work doing that?

I've had mixed results in Columbia but the last time was horrible, low class white trash and not what I would consider a reason to return. I've seen stuff at Clemson like that as well and cannot believe people would consider that kind of behavior. I reckon there's good and bad everywhere you go but I'm always going to extend a friendly welcome to anyone that visits my alma mater, no sense in being rude or taking advantage of someone.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

you see, glenn, no self-respecting Coot fan will comment here...and, if they do, it will be something along the lines of "it happens everywhere." Its too bad I even read this article because I agree, but no one will take my opinion because of my bias.

Oh well. You know how you fart in a room and you can smell it...but if you stay long enough and it was YOUR fart, the smell isnt so bad? well, willy brice and its fans stink. period.

I was at the USC Auburn game last weekend. Their fans are the CLASS of the SEC. They were the same way in 2007 when they came to Columbia for the Thursday night game.

We've done business with Auburn, which has required me to travel down there several times - and the people and campus feel a lot like Clemson.

The bias between the two in-state schools will keep them from looking at each other objectively - but I've gotta say that when we've been on football road trips (more than just a few), the opposing fans almost always comment on what a pleasant visit they had while at Clemson and have almost always extended the same courtesy. Ga. Tech and Boston College are the two exceptions. By comparison, all I can think of when I think of the atmosphere in Columbia is what the crew of College GameDay said of their experience down there. I'll leave out my personal experience/thoughts of the environment down there because it'll fall on deaf ears anyway.

I've been to nearly every venue in the SEC and many ACC as well. The folks at Auburn are very hospitable. LSU is by-far the worst. You're lucky to make it out of there alive.

The fans at Clemson/USC are one in the same....lot's of good fans....and a handfull of obnoxious assholes.

No excuse for being rude and ugly. Good for Auburn fans for not being dicks.

Clemson fans are very polite. Deluded and self-absorbed but polite.

Truth be told I haven't traveled all that much to away games. Been to Clemson, Tennessee, Auburn, and Georgia so my perspective here is limited. The worst place I've personally been to was Georgia. I've seen bad fans at all locations including Carolina. Best gameday experience in terms of atmosphere is Tn with Clemson being a close second. The warehouse district in Columbia isn't exactly scenic and yes before they "greened up" the fairgrounds it looked like a post nuclear war movie set sometimes.

So no 2th I'm not going to come on here and tell you how great USC is compared to the others. What I will tell you is that I've been to plenty of Clemson games where there was drunk white trash, some young and some old spewing filth out of their mouth just like I've seen at Carolina games. Not sure about the never lost a bet comment though, please explain.

Hell two years ago I was at a Carolina game and got into with two 20 something USC fans over their mouth and how drunk and stupid they were acting. Got security to remove them from the section and everyone stood up and cheered as they were led out, this was a guy and his girlfriend by the way. They were a cute couple to say the least.

We all have them, maybe we have more, maybe we don't. Not sure how you quantify something like that. I'm sure for every crappy experience a Clemson fan has had in Columbia you will get one of us that's had an equally bad experience in Clemson.

I have been to a U2 concert at Clemson, but not a football game.

    Pretty place. Seriously.

We didnt grow up with college football being the saturday thing to do. My background is in beach real estate, and pee dee tobacco. Saturdays being the big turnover day, it was always a day to work. Saturdays on the farm, you fixed the shit that broke during the week, or went fishing and hunting.

My college football is limited to Williams Brice. I hate the traffic. I hate crowds. I hate not being able to see exactly what is going on on the field.

With that said, I have never tailgated at Williams Brice and seen the "rude behaviour" people mention from Cock fans. I see people yelling "gamecocks!" to the opposing team members and then inviting them over for a brat or a beer. The drunks in the crowd, I am sure is with every school. You are going to have those. If those folks are all you have bumped into, then I apologize.

What I see more often than not, are the opposing teams fan's rolling into "our house" wearing a chip on their shoulder expecting trouble and basically being rude.

For all you folks talking about what a great experience it is to tailgate at scenic universities...I look at it like this. Back when I was single and tapping shit right regular, I didnt pause to critique the young lady's feng shui, I was there to do work. Take that how you want.
