    Default equipment list

For us newbies, I thought it might be helpful for some folks to post up equipment that we might overlook. This is my rough list:

    bow setup
    release
    spotlight
    hatchet
    Glock/ammo
    gloves
    duct tape
    tags/license
    rope

Can you pros add some things I'm sure some of us will overlook. Thanks, cc

I only let one man on board with a weapon. Adrenalin will forgo common sense every time and the entire boat will be taking pot shots at the lizard...BTW, you dont need the biggest you have. A 22 revolver will work just fine.

Hat clip lights, if you dont have courtesy lights on board.

Use a stiff bladed knife in place of the hatchet. You can feel the point to get to the vertebrae and put it in between two of them, as opposed to whacking and chopping at him.

If you prefer to use a bow, get a harpoon as a back up. Good for close in work and getting a second or third line in him.

Personal preference: Electrical tape over duct tape. Electrical tape will adhere if it gets wet. Duct tape...not so much.

The best thing I have found to have in place when gator hunting, is a location in mind for ice and processing. Many folks have forgotten that trivial and oh so important part of the gig.

I aint much on the 22 revolver on a big gator. We use a .44magnum that way we dont have to use the knife to sever the spine. It usually does it for us.

I use a .45, but only because I dont have a .22 pistol...and I always make sure the telegraph road is cut...to hell with one of those big bastards waking up on the deck of your boat, or tied off to the side.

    Beer.

Blue lights work better. You keep your night vision and they don't spook the gators.

Blue hat lights, boat lights etc. Pro tip.

I use a gaff. I had to use it to pull the nuisance gator up to shoot him. I am fixing another one up for back up.

The blue light also works super sporty at night for those slow driving mofo's that won't get out of your way when you are dead dog tired and ready to get that stinking gator out of the boat. Another pro-tip...

For the night hunters, you don't need to see the future with that spotlight.

And as far as choice of sidearm, big iron is more funner.
