Well that's mighty nice of their government.

New law makes self-defense legal

The Irish government has made it legal for people to use reasonable force to defend themselves, others, or their property, against intruders.

The Home Defence Bill says reasonable force can in some circumstances result in the death of an intruder.

There has been a debate on the rights of homeowners to defend themselves after an incident in County Mayo in 2004.

A farmer who shot dead an intruder was found not guilty of manslaughter.
