    Default 87 yamaha 25

i went out on the lake saturday morning, motor was running good, skipping a little. water pump was pumping okay, not hard stream of water, but steady. the engine got very hot and i almost blew it up. i turned it off because i noticed the so much smoke. the backside of the head, where the spark plugs are has turned a burnt color.

    what would cause this?
water getting in the head? and if so what could be causing that?

    thanks

Did you forget to put oil in the gas?

Something similar happend to me this past summer with my 87 yamaha 25. Mine got really hot and eventually shut itself down. The back near the spark plugs got very hot. It turned out to be my thermostat. You might want to check that out. It is pretty easy to do. I did it myself.

Duckslayer- Sound like your thermostat. Your engine block, you should always be able to touch with your hand, no matter how long it has been running. Take your cowl off and run it for awhile, once it gets to where you cant touch it just take the thermostat out and run it, if it cools down automatically then its a bad thermostat. You may have to put it in drive to cool quicker. Even though the thermostat is bad, it will still allow water to be spit out. It doesnt mean that its going around your block cooling. When you go to replace your thermostat make sure you scape off the old gasket, because i gurantee its melted to the head, just with your comments. Make sure to order a replacement gasket. Have anymore questions just pm. Good luck -TJ
