Killed most of my deer with a 7mm-08 even though I enjoy shooting my .300 long distances

Tie between the 25-06, the .308 and the 7mm-08 (the REAL 7mm) Killed a bunch with a lot of different calibers and bullets over the past 40 or so years. Not a lot of difference. Shot placement and bullet performance is where it is at. I would not feel handicapped one bit in the least if all I had to shoot was a .243.......as long as it was accurate.
If it ain\'t accurate at long distance, then the fact that it is flat shooting is meaningless.

The real story is that for whitetails it doesn't really matter as long as you hit them in the right spot and have a decent bullet. Most problems are due to poor shot placement which often stems from lack of practice or recoil induced flinching which many don't want to admit.

Or just change guns to a 50 cal, no more tracking.

.270 with 110 hornadys. Very quick and flat shooting with great expansion and blood trails. Very little tracking, if any.
