Determing a deer's sex

Do you think you can accurately tell the sex of a deer by it's track? How about it's scat?

If someone had a gun to your head and said tell me the sex of the deer that left these tracks or else, what would you say?

Def. not a heavy deer note the deer was in sand.

The scat just determines whether they have been eating hard mast (acorns) or soft mast (muscadines, blackberry, food plots)

To say whether it was a buck or doe by the scat is..........................silly

There is a very, very thin layer of sand, but then it's very hard bottom... it's not even a quarter inch worth of sand on top.

how about if the deer has the green apple squirts. the size of the hole is really a moot point then.

Track is a track is a track. Guessing by size is just that, guessing.

Everyone has a 50/50 chance of being right though.

not really. the bigger butthole will have less pressure due the the greater volume of the intestines. therefore, the distance squirted will be less, so it would be more of a puddle of squirts. however, the smaller butthole will have the higher pressure due to the decreased volume, and will produce a longer squirt. that would make more of a line or string of squirt on the ground

The above theory only works under the assumption that larger deer have less sphincter tone than smaller deer.

I would offer that d/t being larger and therefore stronger and more mature that they would have greater sphincter tone and be able to generate more resistance.

i watched a doe go across a road dog driving one day and she left a BIG track in the road. I just sat back a watched about 5 people come through and look at it and was about to turn dogs loose on the track cause they thought it was a buck cause it was so big. So your rite Glenn its hard to prove it for sure by the track.
