    Default Fun catch on light tackle

    Actually, this is the smallest one I brought to the boat. The other was a bit bigger, but the wife had a duck when I said I was gonna bring it into the boat to get the hook out.

    Caught near Edisto Island, rising tide, next to the marsh edge on a live pogie fished on de bottom.

    It was released, but I have learned they are good eatin' if you handle the post-catch processing right.

    Nice one Swamp- I was catching her babies left and right in the surf at Edisto back in June. No size- all 12" or under, but alot of fun and very,very peacefull. I need to try more of this saltwater angling.

    I don't care how you handle them, they will still taste like shark. It's one of those "you just have to know how to cook it" sort of things. Shark is probably fine if you've never tasted real fish. I'd rather eat a pogey than shark.

    They are fun to catch though.

    shark is one of the best tasting meets ive had from the pier. We use to catch a nice 5-6ft on the pier, clean them up, then have the pier fry it, and bring out all the fixings. good times..

    Y'all are crazy. If cleaned right, and bled out quickly, they're damned awesome when grilled up right.

    Get 'em in the boat, cut from ass to throat, toss the guts, slit the gills, and put straight on ice.

    Get to shore, cut into steaks, cut off the skin, put on ice in ziploc bags.

    Toss in some buttermilk a couple hours before cooking. Then, season to taste, grill, enjoy.

    I've had some great swordfish and wahoo, but I think shark rivals them both.

    i guess it wouldnt be any fun if everyone had the same taste buds.

    i guess theres people who enjoy eating the ass out of a roadkill skunk.

    I've been meaning to learn the spots down between you and Cape Romaine.... should be less pressure. But maybe that's a mirage.

    Shark if prepared correctly is excellent....Especially blacktip.

    Cubed blacktip marinated in a ginger/soy mix and shish-kabobed. Mighty fine.

    I repeat , They stank on the best day. I worked offshore and gutted hundreds of sharks and ajax won't wash the funk off.

    Agreed on the stanky stanky. Part of the aroma factor is the skin. The skin is where they piss.

    Sometimes, I will catch a decent blackfin, gut him on the water, and grill, or cube, or whatever tickles the fancy. That liver, unless removed quickly, will make the whole fish smell like...shark liver...just my humble opinion.

    Like the other folks said, blacktips are some fit eating.

    It's all about bleeding them out...immediately. After you gut them, cut the blood line below the vertebrae as well.
