Thinking about purchasing a Smith and Wesson 642 for concealed carry. Anyone have any experience with this pistol?

A fine pocket/ankle BUG. The 642 has enough weight to it to enable you to shoot .38 +P ammo without wringing your hands in pain. The 342 TI is a lot lighter weight and carries nicely, but it flat out hurts to shoot it.
You can't go wrong with a 642.

I have a 637... same gun with the hammer.
I like it, easy carry with the hammer

Check out the 360 in .38. Lighter, but does have a hammer. It's Scandium vs. aluminum. Got mine from Budsgunshop.com for $399 shipped. One helluva deal.
IIRC, they had the 642 for a good price just last week (but I think they are out right now).
642 is a very nice carry gun-
i can't think of the number i just ordered but its the humpback 38 with just a hair of hammer showing so i can shoot single action if i choose- i ordered it in lightweight and black.
I just can't do the Ti superlightweight guns-- they hurt ME too much
Have to agree about the "kick" with the 642. Couple boxes of ammo and you definatly feel it. It is a good carry gun.
Thanks for the replies.
My wife carries a 642 w/crimson trace laser grips. Great gun for concealed carry but as posted before, a little much to target practice with.
I have two 642's. One stays in the wife's car and the other is for spare.

The 642`s a great gun, i carry one on my ankle every day at work. I wouldn`t reccomend it for a stand-off weapon. its more of what i would call a gut gun, but it`s great for concealed carry.
The 642 is, to me, the Gold Standard of concealment carry revolvers. Great gun, fits into the pocket easily. At 15 yards, I can eat somebody's lunch with it.

have a 638 lightweight for concealed carry and love it. Its the same one Trad ordered
I had an older Model 38 at one time... good gun also. Not quite as "streamlined" when it comes to pocket carry, but still good. That is the one that was previously known as the "Bodyguard".
My department's policy would prevent me from carrying it, anyway. We have to tote DAO guns.
