Default High School football coaches salaries

This link will take you to the salaries of the High School football coaches from this state. Some of the small schools are paying big money for a head coach. Some of them are not even the AD. There is one that I know for sure who is not a certified teacher, not the AD and only teaches driver education that makes over $78,000 a year. Pretty strange if you ask me.

Just like the one I am speaking of, Steve is not a certified teacher. That's one reason that his pay is so low compared to others. Makes you think doesn't it. The other coach makes almost double what Steve makes.

    James Wallace Northwestern York $87,311.00
    John Barrett York York $86,057.00
    John Turner Clover York $80,893.00
Robert Carroll South Pointe York $79,529.00
The three under Wallace were all his assistant coaches at one time. Carroll was a driver's ed teacher, Barrett a PE teach and Turner was a weight lifting coach. Wallace is the only one who is an AD.
God I done got old cause I had all three as teachers in high school.

The real money man retired last year. The baseball coach here probably makes higher than anyone on the list but he isn't listed. Won the state championship or either lower state every year since 95' I believe (could be wrong but it has been a buttload of wins)

    question,

Is all of that state money or do boosters supplement that? Who sets the salaries at the high school level? I thought they were state employees.

I ask because I know teachers who quit coaching because the "suppliment" of $500 per sport was not enough to pay for the gas back and forth much less the time involved.

The pay was increased much more by the number of years on the job and the level of education received. A masters degree paid much more than being the girls basketball coach.

All that said, $80k is not out of the question for the level of responsibilty and work that goes into running a high school football program these days.

new coach Chris Miller at Byrnes makes 85,450. I wonder what the offered Bently to try to make him stay. Spartanburg pays 95,542, and Dorman 87,571. No wonder my poor little Mauldin can't compete at 59,689 in the same region. and they just put up more money a few years back to hire him.

The county is what determines what coaches get paid. Along with boosters. Spartenburg County has the best supplements for coaches. I thought Bobby Bently (when he was at Byrnes)had a NIKE contract?

Aiken County has to split up alot of money for all the coaches it has. You would be amazed at what Larry Campbell makes at ******* County H.S. in Lincolnton, Ga. He is just 1A. The big boys down in south Ga are bringing in some jack too. It blows my mind how coaches are able to bring staffs with them. County jobs have to be found for the assistants.
