    Default Duck Pond Question

can you combine corn prior to flooding?

in other words, can my farmer come in and harvest some corn before we flood. he needs the corn. half is his. he usually comes AFTER the season and harvests it all.

i need more than just opinions...i need facts. he wants it cut YESTERDAY.

He definitely can harvest any amount of the cornfield he wants. You just can't manipulate( meaning bushog) any unharvested corn.

Probably would be wise to start cutting where the corn is growing.

it differs for waterfowl impoundments killa...you can't do the same thing to a duck pond that you can a dove field.

if i am wrong someone correct me, but i am pretty sure that you can't just bush hog a waterfowl impoundment or just run a silage chopper over the field.

    Dats da fact Jack.

I have some experience with this sort of thing. Combine it and then call me oh say somewhere around Thanksgiving and I'll come and check it out.

I have my own waders and gun and I will not charge you because we're tight.

That's what I do for friends.

I didnt say that. What I said is it has to be a "Normal" agricultural practice. Growing corn then bush hogging it is not a normal agricultural practice. This is exactly how it is stated in the South Carolina Waterfowl Hunting and Baiting pamplet put out by the DNR. You CANT just bush hog a crop you have grown but you can combine it like he asked then you can bush hog it.

but that is for a dove field...i was just saying that the "normal ag practice" is a little different for impoundments vs. dove fields, so you have to be careful

I am not tyrin to argue about it but like I stated above its in the South Carolina WATERFOWL Hunting and baiting. It talks only about duck impoundments and hunting agricultural fields for Waterfowl and not doves. I am not saying the same rules dont apply to dove fields because I honestly dont know never planted one but this is the information coming out a specific waterfowl pamplet from the SCDNR.

    Toof:
Does the farmer plant "free" for you for half the crops?
Got a 30 acre tract I want planted. Got a farmer over here that I want to ask to do it, but wanted to get an idea of what it might cost.
