I guess it depends on how secure you are with what you have.
A .25 cal round placed in the right spot by a patient hunter is as deadly as it gets. I shot a .30 cal round for over 20 years with no complaints and lots of success. I now know it isn't needed unless you're using it as an excuse to take marginal shots and break deer down.
I got a .300 zeroed at 300.
Im sure Im overcompensating for something but on the other hand I only gotta compensate about 24" @ 500.
