Default 10 a.m. EST on Thursday, June 26th '08: SCOTUS 2nd Amend Ruling

"Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., announced that the Court will issue all remaining decisions for the Term at 10 a.m. Thursday. The test case on whether the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a gun is among those remaining (District of Columbia v. Heller, 07-290)."

Just before 10 a.m. the link to 'Today's Liveblog' will appear somewhere on this website's homepage (probably in the right hand grey section). It is a continuously self-updating window/sub-page, and will relay the announcement of the first 2nd Amendment ruling by the Supreme Court in over 70 years, and the only one ever in our Republic directed at settling the existence of this core right.

Why exactly has this issue been brought before the courts and who is pushing the hearing?

D.C. outlaws firearms city wide. Ruling is being challenged and The black robes will make their decision today. Initial arguments seemed to favor gun owners but with this group of rocket surgeons, ain't nothing a sure thing.

Court: A constitutional right to a gun

Answering a 127-year old constitutional question, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to have a gun, at least in one’s home. The Court, splitting 5-4, struck down a District of Columbia ban on handgun possession.
Justice Antonin Scalia’s opinion for the majority stressed that the Court was not casting doubt on long-standing bans on gun possession by felons or the mentally retarded, or laws barring guns from schools or government buildings, or laws putting conditions on gun sales.

The most scary thing is that the court was split 5-4. That means we have 4 Supreme Court Justices that do not believe the 2nd Amendment gives American Citizens the right to own a gun.
Honey...I'll do it after the season is over.

    For our LEO's:

When the legislation or ruling by the supreme court comes down that the second amendment is unlawful, and confiscation of firearms begins, (and it will happen considering a 5-4 ruling today), will you allow yourself to disarm the population?

I fear that many of those that wear a badge have gut hooked themselves on the notion of a police state is a good thing for the citizens.

Trust me - it will not come to that with me. I'll be retired. But I hope it never becomes an issue for this country.

Now - What is the penalty for those lawmakers in DC that broke the law of the land?
