LAURENS, S.C. - An argument during a card game led to a shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead, authorities said.

Lewis Wayne Fielder Jr., 21, has been charged with murder in the Monday night shooting, Laurens Police Chief Robin Morse said.

Fielder was playing cars with Grenard L. Pitts when the two started to argue. The two started fighting and Fielder pulled out a gun and started shooting, Morse said.

Pitts was hit four times, once in the chest and three times in the back, Coroner Nick Nichols said.

Two witnesses originally told officers the shooting was part of a home invasion, but changed their story after they were taken to the police station, authorities said.

Investigators are still reviewing the incident, Morse said.
