    Default Dogwoods

Is there a disease free healthy one left in the state?

Good question. 30 years ago I had 123 flowering white dogwoods here. I now have a few somewhat healthy ones left, but few of them flower anymore.

I've got a bunch on my place.

Volunteer trees in the woods that don't get managed ain't a recipe for dogwood success.

I've got 2 Kousa dogwoods in my backyard. Planted them two years ago. The guy at the Nursery recommended them because they flower later than most. He said that a late frost will hurt most dogwood trees that bloom early.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

We have 3 or 4 ones that are blooming on our property in orangeburg. Noticed them when checking out the azaleas today. Reminded me of this post. They haven’t been touched in 5 years so I was surprised.

I cover a lot of ground in the state on a regular basis.

I’d say 70% of em are doing good but disease is definitely noticeable.

Seems to be a small town/rural problem.

Downtown urban area trees look healthy as can be.

Disclaimer: I haven’t been in the Columbia neighborhoods in a while.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

There was one I saw yesterday in FA that impressed me. At least they are hanging on.

I lost 3 big ones in my yard that have been there my whole life. What is the disease that is killing them? Is it only the older trees or are younger ones experiencing it too? I see healthy ones around but can’t correlate why some are healthy and others are dead right around the corner .

I haven’t seen a single tree in years that has not show some sort of sign of sickness.

Mostly what we see killing them is dogwood anthracnose.

According to some folks in the know, that I know, powdery mildew is pretty rampant as well and is getting glossed over for some reason.
