    Default Ideas on catching groundhog

We have a groundhog that has taken up residence under my office bldg

In city so shooting his ass is out of the question , however not sure what one more gun shot on W Whitner St would matter or draw any attention

Bought one of those wire box traps like an old rabbit gum. Everything I read said use cantaloupe

So far 2 damn cats and 1 possum

Any other ideas , sucker gets under my office and my boykin damn near digs a hole in my office floor trying to get at him when I have him at the office

I would put a cb short in a 22 and shoot him and just be discreet about it.

    Or a gamo pellet rifle

I'd stick with what you are doing.

I have found that when using those traps, expect to catch a few opossums. This is especially true in the beginning. After a few of them have been taken to the farm, there is time to catch other animals.

The place I worked for when I lived up there used a company to come get a family of them out from the office. We too tried everything to catch the dang thing and gave up.

You could always get one of the .22 cal air guns. I'm sure it would take care of him quietly.

Keep doing what you're doing. We hammer them with a wire trap in KY just like what you're doing. Put the trap right by his hole. After you catch him, tie a rope to the trap and schedule a swimming lesson....

    Snare is effective.

    Firearm will be easier.

Just turn the doynkin loose under there and may the best critter win. If the groundhog wins you aren't out anything and that'll be a great reason to buy a proper dog.....

Snare at hole is effective. Just set a smaller loop than you would think. Those bastards are strong when you're playing tug of war with a midsection catch!

Had city cop tell me the 22 short("unofficially") but I worry about him running back up under the office to die and smelling (will not bother me but my clients and staff might think other wise)

Rent Catdaddy's dog. He's great with ground moles, the groundhog should be easy!

Don't worry about the groundhog. Stay after the cats.

Hose pipe in his hole with the water turned on and be waiting on his ass with a tee ball bat.

Also, set up a camera and record the entire event and post it here for all to see.

Firearm 1st. A properly placed .22 will do it. A .22 wouldn't raise an eyebrow on Whitner.

Plan B.... Years ago I tried a wire trap for one we had moving between an outbuilding and the culvert under our driveway. Could not get him to commit. One day I saw him go into the culvert and knew there were only two ways out. I grabbed my bow and stood behind a big oak tree about 15 yds from the end he went in to. After a ten minute wait, he stepped out and stood straight up. I drilled him in the chest. My buddy missed him two weeks earlier off my deck with a bow. So now you know why I used a bow in the country. Would work just as well on Whitner.

This could be a fun event, just have a kid stationed at each burrow hole, or at least have snares rigged up.

At a buddy’s neighbor’s old tractor shed/workshop/cattle barn/chicken coop, the groundhog family had four access holes we could find, and the amount of dirt they had dug out of them literally raised the floor of the old milking room by about 18”.
