Default PSA for Ford twin panel sunroofs

Attempted to sell my 2016 F150 with 155k miles last week because we needed a bigger truck. Guy asked if the sunroof worked which I replied “I honestly don’t know”. Well it vented but would not drop down and slide back. A light push down from the top did the trick, but kept hanging up on repeated test. Obviously this caused him to loose interest and you know the rest of the story.

So I went to the WWW knowing the twin panel roofs have a terrible reputation, I found a video and tried it out. Quick cleaning and lube with this overpriced gift from the grease gods and it is fully operational and smooth as can be.

Not sure if there is a cheaper better product, but this one worked as advertised.
According to people smarter than I, this should be done every 6 months or so. My seals were sticking when I tried to open it so there must be some truth to it. This may prevent a more costly repair down the road.

    Anyway here is the video

Ford sunroofs are notorious pieces of crap. Ask me how I know…

I order trucks without the stupid things. My F150 has one because I picked up used. Clogged drains, folded WS. I never open it, have no use for a sunroof.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

    2016 F-150

Mine flooded the passenger floorboard. My WeatherTech had water pooling at the top. When I slid it out to dump it, I was greeted with standing water below it. Even better??? I didn't find this mess until after about 10 days had passed. It fuckin' stunk.

I keep my seals treated with that fancy DuPont $30/oz grease, but the issue was Ford's design & the issue with all the pop rivets leaking. I guess my drains were dirty, or they just couldn't compete with the volume of water.

I still gotta seal the rivets & check/clean the drains. Hopefully that'll take care of the leaking.

The next mission is to continue with the mold & mildew.

I've always had sunroofs except for my last Explorer - it felt like I was in a cave. The only problem I ever had was with my wife's Honda's sunroof - I open mine a lot so maybe that keeps things working. I had 250k on a Explorer with a sunroof and it worked perfectly. The new Explorer has the twin panel sunroof so thank you for this. I keep an eye on it.
