Default Non-gay pole barns for he-man habitation

    Hey all,

I've been considering buying approximately 5 acres. I'm looking at possible Barndominium or steel structure to live in.

I know everything is expensive since the last 3.5 years. But anyone take on a project like this and how was your experience?

    Cost, etc. Are you happy?

    Thank you!

Built this 2 years ago. All in around $120k (built out on the inside), not including land. 3br 2 full bath.

Visorguy is your man. There's a complete thread in here somewhere cataloging his entire build.

We just finished this at the end of last year. It was going to be relatively inexpensive until my wife got her mind set on some of the interior finishes... It is 40' x 66', 2BR, 2.5 Baths, 1,200 SF Shop with the remainder plus a loft with spiral staircase access is finished. I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Consider a post and beam build as well.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You might want to consider buying more than 5 acres so you can subdivide a small parcel for the house/barn and have at least five acres of undeveloped/farm land. I think the minimum acres to qualify for an ag exemption is 5 acres. Otherwise, they're going to hit you with residential taxes on the whole thing.
