    Default Vizio TV

Guest room tv wouldn’t load some apps so I figured updating the software would cure the problem. However, the update process froze and screen went black with the power light flashing.

So far I’ve tried the following interweb solutions with no joy:
    A) tried a factory reset by holding the power button down for 30 seconds
    B) left it unplugged overnight

Anything else to do before I go and buy a replacement for this year old TV?

I've had 2 flat screen TVs go black screen in the last few years. If you've Googled a fix for it you'll find thousands of articles on the problem which indicates a common problem. I wasn't able to fix either of my TVs.
55" TVs are pretty cheap these days. The last one I bought I dropped an extra $140 for the extended 3 year warranty.
    Hope this helps.

Curiously, the 55" Sony I paid big bucks for 15 years ago is still working fine.

I have no idea, but Walmart just bought Vizio last week so take it in to them and see if they’ll replace it. Even a Samsung should last more than a year.

Unfortunately, they're made to be replaceable these days. Put it in the dump and go get another one.

Just saw a 75" Samsung at Walmart for under $600.

    Sorry I'm no help.

Call me crazy, but did you consider calling Vizio's tech support?

This is really your only true solution. Samsung has walked away from the competition when it comes to TV's. If you don't have a Samsung, use a Roku or Apple TV for your apps. Most TV processors don't have the juice to run internet apps. Samsung figured that out though...

Samsung! Had a Vizio, it always had problems with apps from the day we got it. Would freeze up and you would have to reboot it to clear it. Got a Samsung no more problem.

I’ve put power supplies in Vizios before for a similar issue. A power surge caused this particular failure.

I am personally running a 55” Samsung purchased on Black Friday in 2011. I have my Apple TV tied in running my apps

Vizio must have had something going on yesterday, my parents called me this morning panicked over a "Cannot load apps" messages. However, they were still able to use the apps they normally use like YouTube TV. Netflix, etc. MG

That phone call lasted long enough for me to imagine inflicting great bodily harm on the “tech rep”.

New tv is setup in guest room for my son and daughter in law’s arrival later today.

Forget all the big name brands. The guts of all of these TV's are essentially the same. Get yourself a TCL tv. They're made in the USA and they just seem to work. I have a 55" in my garage that has been there for 10 years and never had an issue. I have a 58" in my den and another 55" in my bedroom. Never ever a glitch.

Just get a Firestick and plug it in.

As long as the Vizio will boot up, you'll be back going again for $20.

My son and daughter-in-law are beach readers but consume far too much Bravo channel content. They are free to do so in my house but in the guest room.
