Yea, because farming is completely pure these days and without any government aid or support….

Maybe if deer eating is too much for a farmer to handle, he should look into a career with less of mother natures influence. I doubt an accountant has many wildlife issues.

Perhaps we have too many deer. 50yrs ago there weren’t this many deer.

If someone broke in and robbed your office every night would you do something about it or just find a new career?

50 years ago there weren’t this many crop subsidies either.

Theres a cost of doing business in all industries. I’m all for mitigating risks but wildlife is a resource to everyone. I don’t get to tell cars to get off the freeway so my trucks don’t get stuck in traffic and lose time.

Maybe true. BUT when does a farmer have a chance to hunt all day? Days on end? I don't. Plus some planted fields you'll never see a deer in the daylight.......But shine it at 11pm and see a dozen or more.

What’s the point in the conservation permit I have, then?

There are in fact, too many deer on the landscape!
I'm not saying I support this bill but I'm also not against it at the moment.
Deer numbers are stupid right now and that is a fact.

Get rid of the USDA and let the free market work instead of the .gov doing everything they can to suppress prices but turn around and dole out subsidies. BTW subsidies have been around since the dust bowl and WWI in one form or fashion they are just a lot more visible today.

You ask those same farmers that shoot deer at night if you can hunt their property and see what the vast majority will tell you......

Lots to that argument. Leases, care, etc. I bet if you went to those farmers and tell them you will kill 20 does before you think about a buck they will consider it.

What? That they’d rather have the deer than a bunch of strangers shooting rifles in the dark on their place?

South Carolina House Bill 5041 (H 5041) would permit a landowner or lessee to take a deer, wild boar, and other crop-consuming wild animals on agricultural use land that the operator owns or leases without a depredation permit.

Why not do away with deer tags and let hunters that are much more likely to eat the harvest take the population down instead on them wasted in a ditch by night shooting farmers.

You still have to have access to the property where damage is occurring. As someone alluded to above, they probably won't invite you.

Yet, I suspect some that lease hunting rights on these same lands are selectively taking a few bucks and passing on does.

Where are the coyotes in all this? (/s)
