Nope but I did shoot a Wood duck that had hen and drake markings. Dropped it off at the little museum on the refuge and they said they would pass it along to the biologist. Never heard anything about it.

I killed an old hen wood duck that was showing some drake plumage last year. With that bird being a mallard, I'd lean toward tame genetics if it's from SC. 99% of the blond phase, silver phase, 2nd generation hybrid, instersex, etc. birds on Facebook are farm ducks, release ducks, or their offspring.

The OP definitely killed an old old hen is how it appears. The bill and speculum feathers are the give away here. I have killed one just like what the OP put up. That said, when hens get so old, they start to grow their chin hairs.... by basically starting to look like a drake. Anyone remember the pintail that set the internet on fire a few years back. Looked just like a drake but the band certificate said the bird was like 10-14 years old and it was a hen. It was indeed a hen, but when these birds lose the ability to control hormones and estrogen, the testosterone goes up and they start to look like drakes.

    how about a poll?
choices are old hen or released hen.

    I choose released.
which is good fodder for outlawing the process.

Why couldnt it be old and released??? If you don't mind me asking, why do you pick released over old? I am genuinely curious how you are getting to this conclusion.
