MWB Jr has hunted 11 times this season. He is 6, and genetics are strong, so sitting still is not easy. This week he was determined to really hunt and try to kill one.
I have done everything to stack the odds in his favor, from the gun to tripod to feeders with ground blinds.
Last night, he was dead asleep, balled up in the chair (we had a pile of boys at the farm). A doe came out and I let her settle down before waking him up. He eased up and waited patiently for her to turn. He made a good shot and the celebration was on.
I bought a 6.8 spc from here several years ago and it has been great for kids. It is now suppressed, and it has put blood on a good many faces. Having the right setup for kids is very important.
Killing a whitetail is a rite of passage in the south. Yesterday evening was one I won’t soon forget.
