maybe, just maybe, its ok to take these same kids into the woods with you every time you go. maybe, just maybe, they dont need to be on the gun. IMO IMO IMO IMO the internet has made it sort of a competition to see who's newborn can kill stuff. Ive heard some weird ass stories on this site for "my kid killed his first deer" when dad held the gun. I dont get it.

Slow your roll a little. If the kid is afraid of a gun kicking, maybe its just too early.
I've had three kids. All went about it differently. Honestly, the really slow walk with my daughter turned out to be the best way (for her, too).
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

Remington 1100 28 GA. 1100 is arguably the greatest dove gun ever made.

I didn’t read the thread, but I went with a youth compact 870 20 gauge for mine. It will last a lifetime , and I like the pump from a safety aspect. He loves it. But it does thump him pretty good, but he doesn’t care one bit.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

I started out with an Iver Johnson single shot hand me down. I’ve bought both of my kids youth model shotguns. I never bought one of them based on recoil. Guns have recoil. That’s just the way it is.

Too much recoil can cause irrevocable, subconscious tendencies.

That's just the way it is.

Then they are probably too young to be carrying a shotgun. That’s what BB guns are for I guess

So, then how does it occur in adults?

Man, I don’t know. Maybe those adults were coddled and pampered as kids. Maybe those adults didn’t grow up shooting. Who the hell knows. I’m not trying to get in a debate with you. If you are scared of the bang or the recoil of a gun maybe shooting is not for you. I’ve never given my kids the opportunity to make excuses. Guns are loud and guns have recoil.

I think you're confused. This isn't about me. I shoot just fine.

I do think that just throwing a gun at a kid obit to watch him/her develop a recoil flinch, then blaming them for being "too soft" might not be the best way of going about it.

Little late but this forum just brough back a core memory for me. My first dealings with a shotgun were with a single shot H&R 20ga. Probably around the age of 6. Dad started me with some bird shot and target practice. After a few lessons the goal was to kill a deer with it. Fast forward from the summer to a cool October afternoon I was sitting on a empty 5 gallon bucket alongside a ditch in a ground blind. Had 3 nice slick heads come within 10 yards. Shortly following the nod from my father I squeezed one off. Next thing you know I was laying at the bottom of the ditch i was sitting on. Knocked me clear off the bucket and I took the ground blind with me. It was a good laugh then and it still is now. Those old single shots will make you a man quickly haha.

Weatherby SA-08 is a whole lot of gun for the money. Check it out before you buy anything else.
