Default Are Any Of Y'all Machinists? (Stainless Steel Related?)

I know PalmettoTrooper does stuff with metal, so maybe he can chime in (or assist).

I'm needing the below items "made" within exact tolerances.

    Actually, I need two:
One with female side to be threaded at 1/2x28 RH.
Another with female side to be threaded at 9/16x24 RH.
Male side is uniform/standard & can be measured.

The one pictured has M16 LH threads (and fits a US Tactical 45 & Mach 23).

Needless to say that the OD, LOA, & flat milled section need to be duplicated EXACTLY.

I can drop off the two that I have for measurements to be taken; I didn't include a picture of the one with unknown pitch. I think they may be 5/8x24, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, thanks for pointing me in a good direction.

I worked as a machinist in a previous life. I don't have access to a shop but I'll throw out my first thoughts in case they're useful.

If this is a suppressor or barrel part, you may want to specify that the female threads need to be single point chased and not simply tapped to ensure more precise alignment. You may get by with tapped threads but just be aware. The male threads need to be chased too, not cut with dies.

If it is stainless and will screw onto stainless, ALWAYS use a lubricant. Neolube (colloidal graphite suspended in isopropyl alcohol) is what we used at the shipyard. Stainless will easily gall on mating surfaces. Neolube is good to have around anyway. You could cover your whole house with a small bottle.

You also need to specify what grade of stainless. 300 series is much softer than 400 series but 400 can surface rust. Most gun parts are made from 400 series.

I'll be interested in what price quotes you get.

    Thanks, PB.

I'm REALLY hoping ole Phil (Innovative Arms) will do the work for me, as this is from one of his cans, but I've not had much success in reaching him, lately.

    Maybe he's on vacation...

Appreciate it! It's nice they're local.

I'm really hoping Phil is willing to do them. If not, judging by the Midlands Tooling site, it seems like they could do it. The kicker is -- how much it would cost... At some point, a new suppressor may just be the better option.

FWIW - Philip at Innovation Arms is balls to the walls, but still threads, cuts, crowns, and does laser engraving.

He currently has my stuff & with our history, I'm beyond confident that I'll receive 100% craftsmanship when I pick up everything.

Sent you a PM. My guy is a bit eccentric so I didn’t post his info here.

www.innovativearms.com came through, and did excellent work in machining the pistons. Got two made; the heat treating & laser engraving looks awesome!

I would have been disappointed if he didn’t actually help you. He’s a stand up guy, unfortunately I haven’t needed to purchase anything from him in a long time.

Yeah, I assumed he would, but I knew he was busy. Almost hated to ask for (now) custom tooling when he's so busy.

As an aside, I held one of .50 cans today. 5 pounds of pure awesomeness!
