My daughter’s first buck
My 10 year old little gal has killed a few does over the last 3 years shooting a 6.8 spc suppressed on an AR frame that I bought here. She has killed everything she shot at, with very little trailing involved.
We decided that she was ready for a real rifle, so I had Griffin magic her up a 6.5x.284 on a youth B&C stock. Got a Leupold mounted on it Friday, screwed on a suppressor and we were ready to roll.
We had a new buck show up Friday evening that I perceived to be a perfect 2.5 yo shmedium 8.
We got a good wind for Saturday afternoon, and headed to the stand. Because Clemson looked like poo that had been microwaved, I left the phone in the pocket and got to spend a great couple of hours with my little girl. We practiced getting ready to get ready, and waited for sunset.
We had discussed her standards, and I could tell she wasn’t going to pass up a doe, and sure enough, a fine doe came in and began feeding. She is usually rock solid, but as we waited for a broadside shot, she was really shaking, and stated as much. We did some math problems and sang a few songs, the deer turned, and she squeezed the trigger. The deer calmly walked 4-5 steps and fell over dead. I helped her reload, just in case, and we quietly hugged and high 5’d. About 5 min into the celebration I looked up and saw a buck standing over the doe. Serious faces returned and even in the fading light, she quickly found the buck in the scope. It took her a minute or two but she put the bullet right behind his shoulder, he bucked and took off. By this time my wife was on the way with my son to help in the recovery. The buck went about 30 yards to ensure he died in the thickest thicket ever to thick. Lots of hooping, a little hollering, and a spattering of dancing and it was all smiles.
The buck ended up being 187 lbs, so likely not a 2 yo, and he is headed to the taxidermist as icing on the cake for one proud young lady.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right
They don't put Championship rings on smooth hands
