    Default Scope nerds

Fixing to obtain my first AR rifle. It is a 308 and I plan on carrying it in the woods some next year. I will need a scope. I don't want to spend more than $500-$600. What is the best deal going right now? I haven't kept up with scopes in a few years

I just bought an AR10 with a 20 inch barrel. Put a night vision scope with an IR light on it. Holy Crap that thing weighs 15 pounds!

I'm not big on the AR platform so I'm guessing the weights can range a good bit. If I wasn't planning on shooting off a rest or a tripod, there's no way I would ever use this one. I tried holding it up walking out the field the other night... it is nearly impossible to shoot anything if you're not on a rest at any distance.

The last 4 or 5 times I've bought scopes, Vortex seems to have had exactly what I'm looking for for right around what I want to pay for it, but that Trijicon that five oh posted is a heck of a deal.

Just got emailed this Steiner on clearance. Hands down this is one of the best deals for a quality AR scope I’ve seen

    Visor,

I went through this debate with my ar10 I built. If your reach isn’t far stick to good traditional glass (ffp or SFP) is your choice and preference. I opted to go with an atn NV scope and aftermarket illuminator on mine. As silver fox stated the bastard weighs a ton but I hunt out of a lot of elevated box blinds that I built so I jump it from the machine or golf cart to my spot and then rest it. I use it more as a late hunt and pig gun as it’s built for that and can see daylight in pitch black. Dollar for dollar as I’m working on a distance rifle to build I’m finding that meopta is a great option and holds up. I’ll probably end up doing one for my sako setup so I can reach beyond 600 yards. I agree Steiner is good stuff but haven’t found a local to let me look through their new stuff hence my apprehension lately. PSA stuff is good but I personally wouldn’t drop a Mark V or swaro on it as the accuracy just won’t be there unless it’s an early build with an FN barrel or the owner swapped barrels for a ballistic advantage or something of the sort. Just my two cents. If you want something for the 1-6ish range with an illuminated reticle that you can shoot on the fly, I recently went with a swampfox lvpo and I actually was blown away with the performance of it. They are a start up much like vortex was back in the day but their glass, reticles, build, etc has all been quality and I’ve beat the snot out of my rifle using it.

AR10 weights kind of start around 10 lbs with nothing on them, don't they? Every time I think about picking one up (like Biggie's), I remind myself that my hunting normally includes several hundred yards of hiking to a stand, along with the pack I normally carry. Every extra pound grows by the yard.

Just picked up an Sig Tango MSR 1-10X28 for well under $500. Got it today, appears to be decent but no time behind it yet. A bit bigger than I expected.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Went with this rig. Shop around and the discounts on them are good. First group on my .223 Wylde was a dime size group at 100yards prone. Super impressed with how it performed on an AR.

Pretty sure Chuck the Duck Slayer lasted a good budget friendly option in the TP the other day. Might be worth a look.
